Spain is a country of small businesses, primarily in the service industry (90% of businesses in Spain have less than 10 employees). The self-employed, people who work for themselves, make up a significant part of the Spanish business fabric, have doubled in number during the last few years their contribution to business activity is especially important.

In general terms, the self-employed in Spain are businesses within the service sector, with an important presence in activities related to commerce, hotel and catering, law and health and construction. 60% of self-employed are found in the autonomous communities of Andalucia, Catalunya, Madrid and Valencia. 65% are male and between 25-45 years old. It’s a segment with high rotation where businesses appear and change frequently.
